Teaching & Learning
At Academy 360, our approach to Teaching and Learning in the primary phase focuses on giving every child the strong foundations they need for future success. Our curriculum is ambitious, well-planned and designed to remove barriers, so that all pupils – including those with SEND, EAL or disadvantage – can access and enjoy high-quality learning.
Every lesson follows the Academy 360 Teaching & Learning Model: Do Now, Teach, Practice, Apply, Assess and Close Gaps. This structure helps children learn new ideas step by step, practise them carefully and use them in real contexts. Teachers check understanding regularly and use short, low-pressure quizzes to help pupils remember what they’ve learnt. If any gaps appear, we act quickly to close them.
Reading and writing are at the heart of learning in primary. Teachers introduce key words at the start of lessons and use pictures and visuals to make meaning clear. Our marking codes help pupils improve spelling, punctuation and grammar, so they can write with confidence. Reading is supported through teacher modelling, reading aloud and breaking down tricky questions. For pupils who need extra help, we provide targeted reading interventions to build fluency and comprehension.
Inclusion is central to everything we do. Teachers adapt lessons and use scaffolding so that every child can succeed, while keeping expectations high. We focus on building vocabulary and understanding so pupils can talk, write and think like experts in each subject.
We regularly check the quality of teaching through lesson visits, work reviews and pupil feedback. This helps us understand what’s working and where we can improve. Staff training is ongoing and practical, with coaching, subject-specific sessions and collaborative planning to make sure improvements lead to better learning for pupils.
Technology supports learning too. Our 1:1 Apple device programme helps with practice, gives personalised support and removes barriers, so every child has equal access to learning.
At Academy 360, our mission is simple: to provide excellent teaching, strong foundations and inclusive practice, so every child can learn without limits and reach their full potential.
